Painting papier-mâché

On a dark and dreary November evening, five of us gathered at Harsingar’s house to spend a couple of glorious hours playing with paint. Harsingar had created a varied selection of vases or containers out of papier-mâché and we got to choose two each. We then set about turning them into all the colours of the rainbow – plus gold! The great thing about painting onto this surface with the paints supplied was that, should you really not like what you’d done, you could paint over the top of your first attempt. So my “Grecian urn” slowly turned from mostly yellow into a pattern of red, turquoise and darker green with golden highlights. It was fascinating to watch others at work, and the end products were both unusual and colourful.
